On October 2, GSCS students celebrated Manufacturing Day at Caterpillar with a hands-on experience connecting creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving to careers in manufacturing.
After a welcome and introduction to the facility, students teamed up with Caterpillar employees for a collaborative, problem-based challenge: design and build a working vehicle without a motor. Each team managed a budget and used “CAT Bucks” to purchase additional materials, making strategic decisions about how to bring its design to life.
Teams put their vehicles to the test, competing against one another in speed and distance challenges. Students then presented their vehicles to a panel, explaining their designs and marketing their products. The experience challenged students to think like engineers, manage resources, and communicate like entrepreneurs.
The day also included a facility tour and lunch in the Caterpillar cafeteria. Before students headed home with Caterpillar swag, employees shared information about upcoming internships, helping students connect the day’s activities to future career opportunities.

Let's celebrate our hard work! Happy Labor Day! All GSCS schools and offices will be closed on Monday, September 7th.
Griffin-Spalding County School System (GSCS) is so very thankful for all of our Partners in Education. So many businesses and organizations help provide opportunities and experiences for our students and teachers. Our district partners that each contribute in excess of $10,000 in value to help students are Brightmoor, Chick-fil-A, Dairy Queen, First National Bank, Georgia Banking Company, Marco's Pizza, Piedmont Fayette Hospital and United Bank. Thank you! Many others support the REACH and similar scholarships, individual schools, fine arts, athletics, and more. Some, like Norcom, provide school supplies. Some take part in the Partners in Education Fundraiser Golf Tournament (Sept 25 this year). Others serve as mentors and reading tutors for students. Community churches host events, volunteer at schools and pray for our students and staff. Thank you Griffin and Spalding for supporting our future through public education. We need you and we appreciate you!
