"The EPA is monitoring air quality for chlorine and related compounds. Current data suggests that chemical levels in the air are unlikely to cause harm to most people. This data, along with further updates, will be shared with the public. Please follow guidance from your county EMA. If you have concerns, limit your time outdoors, close windows, and turn off any ventilation systems."

Good News: The Kona Ice will be a monthly fundraiser for Anne Street. The truck will be here on the 1st Friday of each month.

Due to weather associated with Hurricane Helene and in consideration of the recommendation by the Georgia Emergency Management Agency/ Homeland Security (GEMA/HS), all Griffin-Spalding County School District operations will be canceled on Thursday, September 26, and Friday, September 27.
What you should Know:
• Tropical Storm Watch for the next 48 hours.
• Flood Watch for the next 48 hours.
• A State of Emergency has been declared by Governor Kemp.
The safety of our staff and students is our highest priority. During this weather event, we are expecting high flood risk in low lying areas, 10 to fifteen 15 of rain, very high winds and possible widespread damage. The worst wind and weather is anticipated Thursday night into Friday morning. Please stay weather aware.


GSCS Extracurricular activities for middle and high school students are canceled for today, Wednesday September 25, in anticipation of inclement weather this evening. The elementary afterschool program will still provide service today. The elementary school literacy night events scheduled for tomorrow evening, Thursday September 26, will be rescheduled to a later date. GSCS is continuing to work closely with Emergency Management and Weather Experts to monitor potential weather events. Any additional updates will be provided through the GSCS app and other communication channels.

Dear GSCS,
We have been working with local and state law enforcement since early this morning regarding rumors and social media posts. Their investigations have indicated that there is no credible threat in our community based on the information at this time. All schools are safe and operating per normal operating procedures. Parents should expect to see an increased law enforcement presence in and around schools out of an abundance of caution.
