Summer Reading Challenge Flyer
We are excited to kick off the GSCS Summer Reading Challenge, “RISE to the Challenge.” As we know, reading is the gateway skill to further learning. The GSCS literacy plan, Reading Improvement for Student Excellence, focuses on early reading skills, foundational reading skills, and disciplinary literacy skills.
GSCS students are encouraged to read at least 20 minutes a day, or 2 hours each week, from May 28th, 2023 through July 29th, 2023. Students are asked to record the number of minutes read on the Summer Reading Log. Get Reading Log at:
Students who “RISE to the Challenge” will be recognized on the school level, as well as on the district level for meeting summer reading goals. The completed Summer Reading Log should be turned in during the first week of the upcoming school year.
In partnership with our local library and district media specialists, students will have digital access to a variety of reading materials to support the GSCS Summer Reading Challenge. When selecting books, make sure they are just right - not too hard and not too easy, and that they match your child’s age, interests, and abilities.
Digital access includes: - Please contact the media specialist at their school to get an access code.
